Golf Cart Lift Kits: 4-Inch vs 6-Inch, Cost & Install

Golf Cart Lift Kits: 4-Inch vs 6-Inch, Cost, and Free Pickup & Return

For most Northeast Florida owners, a 3 to 4-inch lift kit is the sweet spot: it fits bigger tires and gives you the lifted look while keeping the cart stable and comfortable. A 6-inch lift is mostly for owners who want the biggest tires for off-road, beach-access or show builds. Mad Dog installs lift kits in our shop and picks up and returns your cart for free. What does a golf cart lift kit actually do?

A lift kit raises the cart’s body and frame higher off the ground. That gives you:

  • Room for bigger wheels and tires
  • More ground clearance for grass, sand, dirt roads and rough paths
  • A more aggressive look, which is a big part of why owners want one

GolfCartIQ’s Florida price guide notes that a lifted suspension adds about $800 to $2,000 to a cart’s market value, so a lift can pay off when you sell.

What’s the difference between a 4-inch and a 6-inch lift?

Golf Cart Lab’s guide to 6-inch lift kits puts it plainly. For most owners, a 3 to 4-inch lift is the better choice, while a 6-inch lift is “a build choice, not a casual upgrade.”

3 to 4-inch lift – Fits moderately bigger tires – Keeps a lower center of gravity, so the cart corners and rides better – Easier to climb in and out of, which matters for kids and older riders – A great fit for neighborhood and community path driving

6-inch lift – Built to clear the largest tires, typically 22 to 23+ inches, per Golf Cart Lab – Almost always an A-arm style kit – Raises the center of gravity noticeably, which means more body lean in turns, a higher step-in and heavier steering

How much does a golf cart lift kit cost?

These are third-party ranges, not our pricing. Golf Cart Lab says 6-inch A-arm kits run roughly $500 to $900+ for the kit alone, before the bigger wheels and tires that make the lift worth it. Installation, wheels, tires and any alignment or steering parts add to the total.

The full cost depends on your cart’s make and model, the kit and the wheel-and-tire package you choose. For Mad Dog pricing, call for a quote.

Is a lift kit worth it?

It’s worth it if:

  • You want bigger tires and a lifted look
  • You drive on grass, sand or uneven ground
  • You want to add resale value (GolfCartIQ estimates $800 to $2,000)

It may not be worth it if:

  • You only drive on smooth community paths and like the way your cart rides now
  • Riders have trouble stepping up into a taller cart
  • You’re planning a very tall lift without accepting the trade-offs in handling

Do bigger tires affect my battery range?

They can. Bigger, heavier tires take more energy to turn, and a lifted cart catches more wind. Many owners pair a lift with a lithium battery conversion. Lithium is much lighter than lead-acid and gives more usable range, which helps make up the difference. Our lithium vs lead-acid guide explains why.

What else should I upgrade with a lift?

Owners often add these at the same time:

  • Wheels and tires sized to the lift
  • LED lights
  • Rear seats or cargo boxes
  • Seat belts and mirrors
  • Lithium batteries

Doing everything at once means one pickup, one install and one return.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 4-inch or 6-inch lift better?

For most owners, a 3 to 4-inch lift is better because it fits bigger tires while keeping the cart stable. A 6-inch lift is mainly for the largest tires and off-road or show builds.

Does a lift kit make a golf cart less stable?

Every inch of lift raises the center of gravity. A 6-inch lift with large tires adds noticeable body lean in turns, so drive more carefully with passengers.

How much value does a lift kit add?

GolfCartIQ’s Florida guide estimates a lift adds about $800 to $2,000 to a cart’s market value.

Do you install lift kits at my house?

No. Lift kits are installed in our shop, but we pick up and return your cart for free.

How much does Mad Dog charge to install a lift kit?

It depends on your cart, the kit and the wheels and tires you choose, so call for a quote.
